Dr Gerard A. Allan

Gerard Allan is no longer a lecturer at Edinburgh University. He now works for Predictions Software Ltd

Gerard Allan is a lecturer in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. He joined the academic staff in 1998 after many years as a Research Associate.

Research

A list of my publications in the departmental database can be found here. I am the author and developer behind the EYE and the EYES yield prediction software. Here is an example of EYES output. He is also the author of the PEYE software, which links the yield polygon library to perl. This software can be used to program very complex layout manipulations such as redundant via/contact insertion, track displacement etc.

The EYES, EYE and PEYE software tools are now available commercially from Predictions Software.

Teaching

I am the lecturer in charge of the 3rd year Gateway laboratory. This lab teaches the verilog hardware description language. The lab is very much a WWW based activity and can be accessed here.

I am also responsible for half of the 2nd Year Digital Circuit course which I share with Dave Laurenson. The course page with some of the lecture slides can be found here.

I am also responsible for half of the 1st Year Electronic Engineering Principles, which I share with Tughrul Arslan. The course page can be found here and some of the slides used in my lectures can be found here. The Principles FPGA lab material can be accessed here, printed versions are available in the lab.

I am also responsible for the "SRAM Cell Design and Layout Optimsation", 1 week M.Eng module. The module documentation page can be found here.
